In July 2021 Tiffy and Matt Donovan founded Breakroom 405 in Oklahoma City. The driving force behind taking up this endeavor was to help their son find a healthy outlet for his stress and anxiety. While researching more about mental health, the Donovans soon found that smash rooms were an innovative way to channel aggravation into constructive destruction. The oxymoron is an obvious nod toward how breaking stuff can actually lead to mental clarity. While of course, rage rooms are not an alternative to therapy, the cathartic release of emotions that comes with swinging a baseball bat at a computer is undoubtedly real.
Tiffany gave up her career of 19 years in human resources to pursue this business. When she hears a crash from the rage room followed by spilling laughter, she realizes how worth it, it was.
Breakroom 405 offers you an experience that employs chaotic fun to make you let go of your pent-up rage, frustration, and anxiety. You can yell an Amazonian battle cry as you take down a printer, cuss like an old sailor at the sea while you smash beer bottles on the wall, go wild and do whatever makes you feel better. ‘There’s no judgment inside of our walls’ concludes Donovan.
Currently, Breakroom 405 has three different facilities. A break room, a smash alley, and a splatter room.
Break Room
The break room is where you go to smash stuff. Before you begin your session, you can buy a protective suit, otherwise, it is perfectly fine to wear sturdy jeans and long sleeves from home. You will also be asked to put on a face shield to deflect injuries.
Next, you will be taken to our collection of weapons including baseball bats, sledgehammers, crowbars, and more. Once you have found your weapon of choice, the next and final stop is the smash room itself. The breakables vary from old computer screens to glass bottles to larger items like TVs and printers (that you need to purchase). Our rooms are fitted with Bluetooth speakers and you have complete rein over choosing the music.
Smash Alley
The smash alley is a faster-paced version of the rage room. You will be given breakables like glass plates and beer bottles to hurl at a target painted on the wall. Smash alleys are also less likely to cause an injury and require no protective gear. The activity is a power-packed explosion of stress and lets you go home feeling lighter.
Splatter Room
Maybe you are not the biggest fan of smashing stuff, how do you feel about splattering paint on the walls? A splatter room is a little nook to be creative and messy as you wish. Our paint also glows in the dark! You will be given goggles and full access to the blue tooth speaker to pick out vibing music.
In Spring, 22 the Donovans are expanding their business to include a beer and wine lounge. To know more about Breakroom 405 visit our website!
